FAIR GAME OFFERS FULL SUPPORT TO MORECAMBE’S DIRECTORS AND FANS

“The situation at Morecambe FC is yet another stark reminder of the urgent need for proper governance and accountability in our national game.

“The behaviour of Jason Whittingham has left loyal staff, players, and supporters in limbo.”

(London, 3 July 2025): FAIR Game have today signalled their unwavering support to the Board of Directors at Morecambe FC and the Shrimps Trust in their ongoing attempts to safeguard the future of their beloved club.

Recently relegated from the English Football League and set to compete in the National League next season, the Lancashire club are in dire financial straits due to the ongoing actions of their owner, Jason Whittingham and Bond Investments.

Fair Game, an organisation campaigning for fairer governance in English football, is eagerly awaiting the final vote on the proposed Football Governance Bill in the coming days, which will look to fix football ill’s and introduce a new independent regulator.

These developments are imperative to guarding against the sort of problems Morecambe are currently facing and will help prevent owners, like Jason Whittingham, from disregarding the fans and the communities that are the lifeblood of our clubs.

The uncertainty at Morecambe continues due to the highly protracted takeover of the club by the Panjab Warriors consortium with the club’s Board of Directors alleging that Whittingham was "considering reneging" on the agreement.

After the Board announced their intention to begin the process of putting the club into administration, the owners have today responded by starting the process of sacking the Board in a move that leaves the future of The Shrimps in complete limbo.

"The situation at Morecambe FC is yet another stark reminder of the urgent need for proper governance and accountability in our national game.

“The behaviour of Jason Whittingham has left loyal staff, players, and supporters in limbo. Football clubs are vital community assets, not playthings for distant owners with no regard for the people they affect.

“We urgently need reform to prevent this from happening again. Fair Game continues to call for the introduction of a strong and independent football regulator to ensure transparency, integrity, and long-term sustainability for our National Game."
