Good Governance

What is good governance at a football club, and how can you measure it?

The governance of most football clubs tends to be simplistic and akin to a small, family run business. This project asks what governance regulation needs to be implemented at clubs at different levels of the pyramid to ensure a balanced, strong board of directors capable of stewarding a club that places fans at the heart of operations.

A draft code of football governance has been developed for top level clubs, and it is currently in the process of being adapted for medium and lower-level clubs.

Once this stage has been complete, a set of metrics to monitor clubs’ implementation of the code will be established.
